Adventure Log-   Julystein Week 4 Events and Wrapup-

7/18

  • Atagon takes the corpse of Seth the loyal Sheriff Cowpens to what remains of the inner shrine at the tower and begins this incantation to restore him to life. However, the prayer ends and no breath comes from Seth. Seth's body turns to ash. Atagon appears grief stricken.

  • A hundred feet above where Atagon's Tower used to be stands a 10' angel staring unblinking to the East. He's too radiant to look upon for long, like the sun.

7/21 BLOOD RAIN!
In the early morning sick green clouds begin forming over the hills above Fort Dawnbreak on what was an otherwise sunny day. They begin to break, spewing thick viscous red rain with a metallic odor. In a rush of terror, the men-at-arms seek refuge under the safety of their tents as the rain stains the canvas a rusty scarlet.

Chit Chat at Sunrize

Gord, ranger of Pelor, is welcomed to the Nuge's camp. Revelers overhear them discussing bows, bow control, responsible bow ownership and the virtues of armor piercing rounds.

A Call for Help!

  • In the evening of the 21st, a signal rocket is seen in the air over the western keep!

  • Strangely enough, at the same time every gnome across the Pinewoods begins to dance!

Clearing the Bloodstorm
At Ft Dawnbreak, Wolverinius holds out his hand and notices the blood rain pitter pattering on top of it. He gazes up to the clouds and moves his hands as if to swipe them away, letting through partial sunlight and dissipating the rain.

7/22

Fast Friends

Gord and Ted Nugent ride out with a host to Ft. Dawnbreak.

Diana falls under the spell of the Loc-Nar with Xena and spends a lot of the week going around the hexes collecting allies for the big showdown with Xena and the Demon Bear vs the forces of good.  She manages to get some fire drakes, zombies, and crab men.

The forces of good spend the week gaining a few allies and resting.  They send Gord the ranger to ally with Ted Nugent and the rest of his hunters, and a massive angel appears over Fort Dawnbreak and brings a few planar friends with him.

As the forces of good and evil mount their forces for the final confrontation, we turn to the lower level PCs to see how they are faring-

Ard, Primus, Pentagon, and Trotter are recovering from the blood rain that fell at Fort Dawnbreak.  After helping to improve morale and washing away what they could of the dried blood, they overheard a conversation between 2 explorer/miner types negotiating some rumors they had about some hidden treasure somewhere out on the nearby battlefields.  One miner knew of a name, and the other of a location connected to the hidden treasure.  Ard and Primus insert themselves into the conversation and offer 500gp for both pieces of information.  The miners agree and tell them that the hidden treasure is associated with a brigand or former brigand named Bill Carson, and his last known whereabouts were at the Brigands western keep in the weeks leading up to its assault by the forces of good a few weeks ago.  Because of the handsome payment and positive relations, they agree to give the party a day's head start on the hunt.  With speed being a factor, the party decides to buy a pair of canoes and paddle down the nearby river to get near the brigand’s former western keep (it has since been taken over by the gnomes since the routing of the brigand forces there).  Travel on the river goes well for a day and a half until they get to a pond created by a dam.  The far end of the pond ends at a dam and the party is shooed away from the water by giant beavers.  They walk the remaining distance to the woods around the keep and stumble into a camp of renegade brigands who are about to condemn a man to death by hanging, one man reads a long list of crimes he is guilty of.  They burst into the camp to prevent the hanging, thinking the condemned may know or be Bill Carson.  Ard has several spells disrupted by brigand archers, and takes some wounds, but eventually he manages to charm the brigand who may be the leader, and the party fells several in melee.  With that the remaining surrender, and the condemned prisoner claims to know Bill Carson.  He says that after the brigand's defeat at the keep, he acquired a uniform from Godhard’s fallen troops and headed east to Atagon’s tower to hide out amongst Godhard’s forces.  They head east to the tower to try to find him.  On the way they are waylaid by 2 angry and green glowing ogres who chase them but they escape in the dense foliage.  Wary of Xena’s forces about, they make it to the tower in the aftermath of the Second Battle at Atagon’s Tower.  Most of the bodies have already been policed and buried at the nearby cemetery, but they come upon a wrecked work wagon and a few injured workers.  They give aid to the workers who say they were attacked by a group of green glowing orcs and ogres looking for Bill Carson.  They admit that they too know Bill, and had been paid by him to bury his treasure in a grave marked with his name, he would in turn hide out and go claim the treasure when the heat died down.  However the group of orcs and ogres have likely gotten there first.  They rush to the grave sites to see what is there and find a dug up grave labelled Bill Carson.  Just then a troop of Godhard’s soldiers discovers them and interrogates them.  They tell them about the plot of the hidden treasure and the presence of Xena’s orcs and ogres about.  They ask the party to see if they can track down and deal with the monsters, and Trotter is able to track them down.  Surprise missile fire drops several monsters and they defeat the ogre in combat.  Carson’s treasure is recovered and the haul is very large.  They return to Dawnbreak with enough coin to pay their trainers to upgrade their skills.

Session Notes-  We opted to play with the low level guys this session, so far every session of this Braunstein has been a large mass combat, so this was a nice change to have the PCs adventure on the battlefields created by the ‘stein.  I just used a few basic plot points from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, poorly explained and with some obvious plot holes but I tried to not make it a super railroady experience.  It’s hard to find that balance of well-crafted storylines and more freeform play that requires rationalization on the fly.  The players definitely had some questions and actions that I was not prepared for but they looked past my mostly made up adventure and had fun with it.  Next week will be the big wrapup for our Julystein.

Treasure and XP-  Monsters- 5x Brigands 50xp, 5x Orc 80xp, Ogre 180xp.  Treasure- 110gp, 500gp, 500pp, 2x jewelry 3000gp, 2x gem 2000gp= 8420xp/ 3PCs= 2807xp each.  Add % bonus if applicable.

Graveyard- 10x Gnomes killed by Guidon’s Brigands cavalry charge into the siege camp outside the western brigand Keep.  (session 134)

109x Troops of the Coalition of the Good killed at the assault of the Brigands Western Keep (session 135)
